Q&A Instructions
A glitch, after clicking on New Topic link below, you will the same Q&A and Difference blocks. Look below Diff block to see "Questions for Members and Yes/No persons" header and the "New Topic" button.

1. Copy-n-paste what your question is about from the Member's forum, someones Yes/No forum, or any Member Q&A Dialogue.

2. Then click this link: hit New Topic button and paste your copy in the New Topic box. Remember "new topic" box is below.

3. Put members nicl-(x) number, e.g. nicl-1 or Yes/No persons name in Subject rectangle followed by the subject of question. For a long question, add more at top of Topic box.

4. Remember, an "I agree" or a "this is my last response" ends your part in the dialogue, and the other person gets the last word.

Finally, read and reread the Q&A procedures. They are meant to treat both sides of a Dialogue impartially.

PostPost subject: Why Macondo releak firestorm is still likely.

Should the oil reservoir be small and the over pressure has been relieved, then this reason does not apply; but I consider the 'too small' possibility unlikely.

Methane combines with oxygen in the water to form methane clathrates(water ice) and also produces carbon dioxide as it is eaten by bacteria. Both processes use oxygen. Thus as long as the oxygen is sufficient to bind the methane or allow bacteria to eat it, no gas can reach the surface = no firestorm.

Unfortunately, the topography of the Gulf creates an eddy caused by the box canyon Macondo lies in that keeps out fresh oxygenated water. This means that given sufficient gas released through the NEW "natural seeps", a firestorm becomes a certainty.

5000 feet deep is a lot of water and thus oxygen, but the eddy means that the oxygen is being replenished at a low rate = we can determine the amount of gas needed to exhaust the oxygen, after which further methane goes into solution as a gas along the CO2 produced by the bacteria and the methane clathrates formed by the just above freezing temperature water. These clathrates(water ice that becomes a heavier than air gas above 37 Fahrenheit) will be pulled up when the methane gas and CO3 gas in solution is dense enough to form bubbles that rise faster and faster as they expand. These combustible gases accumulate on the surface. Now a single spark means a massive explosion and firestorm.

Gulf of Mexico topography played key role in bacterial consumption of Deepwater Horizon spill

The article describes and measures the oxygen deficits caused by the eating of the Macondo oil. This means we can infer how much more gas is needed to exhaust the oxygen.

We need to measure those "natural seeps" now.
